Our coffee prices are increasing, learn why here

We're always upfront about the changes at El Parche Coffee Roasters, and today, I want to share something important with you. Starting February 20nd, you’ll notice some adjustments in our coffee prices at the cafe and in our subscriptions. It's a yearly update, but this time, the reasons go beyond our usual economic factors like inflation and salary increments.

This year, the world of coffee is facing a significant challenge. Coffee prices on the international market have hit a historical high. While it's tough news about price increases, this change is directly benefiting the coffee producers who work tirelessly to bring us the exceptional beans we enjoy every day.

Why Are Prices Going Up?

The main culprit behind the rising costs is a stark decrease in coffee production, exacerbated by climate change. Major coffee-growing regions, including Brazil, have seen devastating crop losses due to unseasonable weather conditions like frosts.

To put things in perspective, here's what's happening in the market: The price of low-quality commercial coffee has jumped from $2 USD to $4.12 USD per pound on the C-Market, where coffee trades. However, the specialty coffee we source, which is of a much higher quality, has seen price ranges soar to $14-$60 per kilo for green coffee. That's a significant rise, reflecting the specialty quality and the additional care going into sustainable farming practices.

Why This Matters to Us—and to You

At El Parche, we're committed to not just serving great coffee but also supporting the communities that produce it. This price increase is a direct reflection of our commitment to ensuring that our coffee producers receive fair compensation, which helps them continue their invaluable work and supports their families and communities.

We believe in transparency and honesty in how we conduct our business, and part of that is sharing these reasons with you, our loyal customers. We understand that no one enjoys price increases, but we genuinely believe that this change is necessary for the sustainability of the coffee industry and for continuing to deliver the quality you expect and love.

We sincerely appreciate your understanding and continual support. It enables us to not only provide you with exceptional coffee but also uphold our commitment to the hard-working producers.

Thank you for being a part of our community and for joining us in supporting a more sustainable and ethical coffee industry.

Warm regards,

Jorge
